Why hello.
I’m sure if by some chance you’re still following this blog you must be rubbing
your eyes with disbelief right now, but yes, I am indeed bringing it back from
the dead – only took me 2 short years didn’t it. So much has changed in my life
since. Most notably I moved to the UK to study back in September 2014, and the
whole process of applying to schools, sorting out all the required paperwork,
moving and settling in kept me pretty occupied for a good long while, so the
blog wasn’t really the first thing on my mind. Then I started university, and
that was a whole new time-consumer, and basically I just forgot about blogging
altogether even if the idea of getting back to it came to mind every now and
then. Thinking from retrospect I really should have recorded my thoughts and
feelings about the whole moving process here, I think it would have been
helpful for myself and interesting to look back to now that I’ve actually
established a life in my new hometown – that
is, Brighton.
I finished the second year of my degree in Fashion and Dress History at the local uni last month and I can’t express how thankful I am to have ended up here. Coming here was hands down the best decision I ever made, despite the toll it took in regards to energy, time, money and peace of mind. It was a bit of a jump into the unknown but I’m extremely proud of myself for having taken it. I originally planned to study Costume Design, but I’m actually really happy I ended on my current course. I’m still aiming to eventually end up working in film costume though, possibly with a little detour in fashion or some other creative field. I’m getting involved in all kinds of related work experience and not planning it too much, just taking it a day at a time and doing what feels right.
I’ve definitely changed a lot as a person in these past years, in a good way I think (and hope). Moving out from my mom’s and flying off to a foreign country where I don’t know anyone has forced me to grow up quicker and has also helped me expand on my worldview a hell lot. I can honestly say I’ve never been happier and more in love with life. And I’m so totally knee-deep crazy in love with Brighton – I’m sure I’ll be ranting about that at some point later!
As you’ll be able to see for yourselves, my personal style has seen some change too – or evolution, shall we say – but it still has a lot of those same old bohemian vintage vibes that I’ve always loved. I’m going to start my final year of study this autumn, so I don’t expect to have a whole lot of time to update my blog in the following year, but do follow me on Instagram, I try to be quite active on there. Honestly, I’ve been thinking that vlogging might be a fun way to shake the blog up a bit and just keep everyone at home updated on what’s going on in my life in Brighton, but as a dirt poor student I can’t afford any sort of video camera, so a good old-fashioned image-based blog will have to do for now. I actually have a set of outfit photos that were taken earlier in the spring waiting to be posted and I’ve also just dropped off a couple of film rolls at the photo shop from my recent visit to Helsinki, so keep posted!
